WHO AM I?

My name is Cody Thompson, and I am currently a digital producer at Spectrum News 1 Ohio. I graduated from Indiana University in May 2019. My journalistic experiences have taken me around the world: I worked and studied in Kampala, Uganda, writing about how the HIV/AIDS epidemic is still wreaking havoc in East Africa and the talented people working to stop it. I spent time in Okinawa, Japan, to report on U.S. military influence on the local culture. In the U.S., I interned at the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne reporting on both the metro and features desks. I also worked as an education reporter for the Reporter-Times and Mooresville-Decatur Times newspapers. I am also a proud alumnus of the Indiana Daily Student, IU's student-run publication.

My professional experience includes a range of skills including writing, editing, photography, data visualization, website/app backend work, Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, schedule-building, interviewing, audio and video editing and more.

Outside of my professional career, I share my life with my wife, Makayla, and our three cats and one dog. I enjoy a diverse set of hobbies including video games, reading, rock climbing and weightlifting, Dungeons & Dragons and whatever other nerdy stuff I can find.
